This extended portrait of Jada-Amina’s grandfather mediates the confrontation of coping with inevitable loss. Kingdom Bound interrogates immortality, loss, and defiance. Bearing witness to the deterioration of their grandfather’s memory and vision, Jada-Amina examines their relationship to their grandfather and Black masculinity.

for your own protection is a meditation on the legacies and aesthetics of Black masculine cultural production. This exploration of collective care, joy, rage and survival amongst black men confronts accounts of intimacy, brotherhood, rivalry, HIV+ and encouragement. Eponymously inspired by poet-activist, Essex Hemphill, the work underscores the basketball court as the black man’s dominion and the world a battlefield -out of bounds.
